[PRESS RELEASE] The Best Hearthstone Players in the World Prepare to Compete at GameGune 2016

 

Gamegune 2016 will see 16 of the best Hearthstone players in the world compete for their share of a €25,200 prize poolfrom the 18th and 19th of November. In addition to this tournament, which will take place at the Kursaal Congress Centre in Donostia-San Sebastian, the event will feature professional cosplayers from Spain.

This year’s competition, now in its 16th edition, will be focused on Blizzard Entertainment’sHearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft. Released in 2014, Hearthstone is a free-to-play digital card game that builds upon the lore of the Warcraft universe, using characters, creatures, and relics from the series. Hearthstone has the largest audience of any online strategy game, drawing more than 7.5 million viewers on Twitch, and with more than 50 million players globally.

As for the tournament format, it will use the Bo5 conquest format, with competitors battling it out in groups, before moving into a single-elimination round.

Gamegune will be streamed in several languages, including Spanish, English, French, German, Russian and Basque, so that it can be followed by millions of fans all over the world. This year's Gamegune is expected to greatly surpass last year's internet audience, which reached 200,000 unique viewers.

Furthermore, Gamegune will also host a Fireside Gathering with a prize pool of €2,000, giving amateur players the opportunity to enjoy the event alongside the professionals. The Fireside Gathering will have limited spots, please sign in at Gamegune’s website.

As with previous editions, Gamegune has invited some of the top Hearthstone players in the world to take part. The first 8 players announced on Tuesday 1st of November and the last 8 players will be announced on Tuesday 8th of November.

This year players joining the competition are Thijs “ThijsNL” Molendijk from the Netherlands, the Czech player Stanislaw “StanCifka” Cifka, Pavel "Pavel" Beltukov from Russia and Esteban “AKAwonder” Serrano and Mario “Mariodela” Lorende from Spain. The winner of Gamegune 2015, Jacobo“Jac0b0” Sanchez, will also join the competition this year.

Additionally, the 16th spot in the competition was awarded to Yaiza Martínez, the winner of our international qualifier tournament held the last Sunday the 30th of October within the OGSeries platform.
